Background

In Yemen, April 2008, Nujood Ali, age 10, sought a divorce from her husband, a man three times her age, after being married to him for two months. Her lawyer, Shada Nasser, won the divorce for her by arguing her husband had violated the law by raping her, even though the law states that a girl in Yemen can be married at any age. Playground takes an absurdist look at the neglect, abuse, and support that Njuood experienced during her marriage and divorce.
