The following media represent the production research done for The Colored Museum. The dramaturg found the majority of the images for projection slides, the lobby display, and for context.



Minstrel and Blackface Images with Contrast
After "The Last-Mama-on-the-Couch-Play," images of minstrels, coons, and blackface performers need to be projected. To procure these, various books were used.

The directors also wanted an additional theme of contrast images. These images were to be similar-looking to specific coon, blackface, or minstrel images but of present-day black American artists. This would be used to show the development of race in entertainment and represent the vestiges of past entertainment.

Opening Slides
The opening scene "Git on Board" is prefaced by a barrage of images of slavery. This is an important opening because it sets a tone that is later contradicted by the tone of Miss Pat.

In this production, images were drawn from the time of capture in Africa to the end of slavery.

Hair
For "Hairpiece," the directors wanted a preface projection to help the transition from the previous scene. To do this, hair images were needed. The projection specialist had her own images, but the dramaturg also pulled the following images.
